HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Huntington Middle School Principal Dr. Gwendolyn Taylor has been named the 2011 Georgia Middle School Principal of the Year by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP). She will represent Georgia for the National Principal of the Year award.
Taylor was surprised by the announcement during a faculty and staff meeting. Melton Callahan, GASSP Executive Director, came from Atlanta to personally announce the award and to congratulate Taylor. “GASSP is proud to showcase Dr. Taylor's accomplishments as a building administrator. Her level of leadership skills speak for itself. She is the type of principal we would want for our kid’s school."
Superintendent David Carpenter was present for the award presentation. He commented, “When the announcement was made, Dr. Taylor’s faculty and staff ‘raised the roof’ in their spontaneous celebration as they applauded to congratulate their Principal. This type of support speaks for itself. I commend Dr. Taylor - she is well-deserving of this award.”
Taylor was recommended for this award by Dr. Donald Warren, principal of Warner Robins Middle. Her excellent work ethic, drive, leadership, interpersonal skills, and care for her students, faculty and staff are clearly evident in all that she does. Dr. Taylor and I also received our doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia together. We attended every class together, and we pushed each other to completion to keep our vow that both of us would be ‘hooded’ at the same time. She is most deserving of this honor.”
A Houston County educator for 25 years, Taylor has gained a reputation as a person who embodies Huntington's mission statement of being a life-long learner. She prefers to lead by example and wants everyone to know how important education is in our lives.
